FENTON TWO FLOWERS GIANT ROSE BOWL. CARNIVAL GLASS was created using a process introduced to AMERICA in 1907 by the FENTON ART GLASS COMPANY. The standard method of making glass was still followed. It involved filling a mold with molten glass. When the mold was full, the glass was snipped off the gathering rod with metal shears cooler than the glass. This solidified the glass touched by the shearsand created what we call a "straw mark".
The glass was then pressed into the mold. The formed glass (blank) was removed from the mold and re-heated to make it more pliant, then hand-shaped to final form by spinning (plate), swinging (vase), flaring (bowl); edges were manipulated by ruffling (6, 8, 10 ruffles), or crimping (pie crust, candy ribbon, 3-IN-1). NOW the new Fenton process was implimented by spraying the still-hot glass with a metallic salt solution, which bonded with the glass forming a metallic "skin" that reflected various spectra of light. The type of metallic salt used and the thickness of application determined the hue(s) and intensity of the CARNIVAL GLASS IRIDESCENCE we're so in love with today! RE-ISSUED CARNIVAL produced from 1970 on IS MARKED.You just don't find these GIANT FOOTED ROSE BOWLS very often. And, when you do, they don't have the DEEP DARK MARIGOLD Iridescence that this Rose Bowl has! 7.5" across the mouth x 4.5" tall. CONDITION IS A SUBJECTIVE EVALUATION. Antique Carnival Glass is approximately 100 years old and will have.
Certain internal and external flaws and imperfections inherent to the production process. UNLESS SEVERE, I DO NOT CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING AS DAMAGE: air bubbles; inclusions (ash, cinder, bugs); straw marks (shear marks); tool marks; incomplete or malformed edges; uneven legs or bowed base (rocking); missing or pooled iridescence; heat checks (internal separations from uneven cooling); rough seams or extra glass at seams; webbed or pulled edge points, etc. You will see these production issues in the photos. You can decide if they are acceptable or not.
BE PREPARED FOR THE REALITY OF ANTIQUE GLASSWARE. BEAUTY OFTEN COMES WITH BIRTHMARKS.IRIDESCENCE IS ALL ABOUT LIGHTING & REFLECTION GREAT LIGHTING = GREAT COLOR. My photos are taken indoors under diffused fluorescent lighting that mimics noon sun (5200° K). White, Smoke, Marigold & Ice Colors look best against a dark background. I show you the iridescent beauty that is possible under strong lighting. Sales and subsequent actions will be based on and subject to the laws of the State of Oregon.
